Not everyone knows that there is an easy and free way to protect your accounts. Two-factor authentication makes it possible to significantly increase the protection of our purchases and our privacy from online risks. In this short article we explain how to enable two-factor authentication in your Amazon, Booking and Facebook accounts.

Last Christmas Santa Claus and his helpers spent the Christmas period in total peace of mind towards the Phishing emails, having obtained with flying colors the Cyber Claus Certification: the evaluation on the ability to recognize between the e-Christmas emails those instead malicious, content links or compromised documents.

This year, driven by the desire to hurry and be up to date, even Santa Claus decided to use some web services: Amazon to buy his gifts, Booking to book your holiday after the efforts of the Christmas period and Facebook to share with his Elves the most beautiful memories of his trip.

But did you make sure to safely use these web services while avoiding unpleasant surprises?

On the advice of INTUITY, decided to activate the user identification system made available for free now by most of the social and e-commerce platforms that requires, In addition to the password, a code that can be used only once and for a short time to access your account. This system is called two-factor authentication (Two Factor Authentication).

Two-factor authentication protects Santa Claus and all of us from stealing credentials, making our online life safer. This way if a hacker were to steal your passwords, they would still need an additional code to access your account.

If you are curious if one of your accounts is already in the hands of some attackers, you can check it out here: haveibeenpwned.com

Although Two Factor Authentication was already used in several companies in the past, it has only recently been introduced in many consumer services such as Amazon, Booking, Facebook, etc.

You can receive the additional code through an sms, email or token software such as Google Authenticator.

What is it and how does a software token like Google Authenticator work?

Google Authenticator is an application that can be downloaded for free with any Smartphone and allows you to generate tokens, that is, random codes for verifying the identity of those who are accessing an online service to which Google Authenticator is associated.

The code has a validity of about 30 seconds, after which a new code is generated.

Now many web services and sites allow you to use Two Factor Authentication with Google Authenticator, such as Facebook, Outlook, PayPal, Amazon, WordPress; others provide for 2FA without the use of software tokens but sending the code through sms.
